Before and after renovation of the neonatal intensive care unit(NICU)
Before and after renovation of the
neonatal intensive care unit.
The previous neonatal intensive care unit at Taipei Veterans General Hospital was not specifically designed for babies. The room had poor traffic flow, unnecessary partitions, and inaccessible corners, making the already small unit even more crowded. It was inconvenient for doctors and nurses to care for the patients, and visiting parents faced difficulty in moving around. There was also a lack of suitable space for educational guidance.
After the renovation, the neonatal
intensive care unit was designed from
the perspective of newborn care,
leveraging over 30 years of experience
in critical care. The existing space was
utilized inthe most efficient manner
possible. What's remarkable is the
introduction of "cantilever" as an
auxiliary element, striving to achieve
the goal of "equipment not touching
the ground," making the rooms more
spacious and tidy. With
advancements in hardware and the
dedication of the neon
atology department
and nursing staff, we
hope to elevate the
level of care provided
in our NICU.
