On November 1, 1959, the Veterans General Hospital-Taipei (VGH-TPE) began to open to the public. The Food Service Section was separated detached from the Department of General Affairs and became an independent department in 1961. We expanded into an independent department- Department of Food & Nutrition in 1974, and changed name to Department of Dietetics and Nutrition in 2013, which included Food Service Division and Clinical Dietetics Division. The Department, including the main kitchen, dietitians' office and the dining hall, is located in the Chung- Chang building. We have 31 dietitians, 135 kitchen workers to serve 3000 beds’patients and 7000 employees.

‧FOOD SERVICE MANAGEMENT

Planning, preparing and service of meals for in-patients, employees, and trainees of the hospital daily. Provide meals for in-patients including balance diet and therapeutic diet such as calorie-restricted diet, protein-restricted diet, sodium-restricted diet, ketogenic diet, liquid and semi-liquid diet and tube-feeding diet, ect.  Patients can order meals by themselves using their own electronic devices or monitors at the nursing station.
 

‧CLINICAL DIETETICS

Provides nutritional care to in and out-patients with services directed toward preventive, maintenance and therapeutic aspects. Takes charge in disseminating nutrition information to patients, medical and paramedical staff.

‧NUTRITIONAL SERVICE for COMMUNITY

Provide nutritional program for community and patient clubs. 

‧TRAINING AND RESEARCH

Trains future dietitians through the Hospital Dietetics Internship program for senior nutrition students. Offers in-service training for the dietary personnel and members of the interdisplinary team. Does research on food service and clinical nutrition.
