About Us
Obesity and metabolic syndrome (such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia) have become one of the top invisible killers that threaten human health in the 21st century. The complications that arise from it, such as gout, arthritis, respiratory syndrome, fatty liver and liver dysfunction, abnormal sperm activity, even hormonal imbalances, irregular periods, and multiple ovarian cysts in women, can even increase the incidence of malignant tumors. Obesity is a huge threat to human health and cannot be taken lightly.
Therefore, weight loss has become a national movement nowadays. However, how to lose weight healthily and with zero burden on the body is an important issue. Therefore, Taipei Veterans General Hospital established the "Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center" in September 2017, with the aim of integrating multi-disciplinary teams of medical centers, combining bariatric surgery, metabolic medicine, plastic surgery, nutrition and weight loss counseling, psychiatry, traditional Chinese acupuncture and moxibustion, sleep center, and physical rehabilitation exercise therapy to provide comprehensive medical services for obese patients. In addition, the center will also integrate multi-disciplinary teams for cross-disciplinary clinical and basic research on obesity.
