        Dr. Wui-Chiang Lee is Deputy Superintendent, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, one of the world-known academic medical centers in Taiwan. Not only a highly acclaimed gastroenterologist and quality expert in Taiwan, Dr. Lee always set on quality and patient safety on a global scale. Dr. Lee joined Johns Hopkins University and earned a PhD (2005) and MHS (2002) from the Bloomberg School of Public Health. He also joined the healthcare executive certificate program at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2008.
        After coming back to Taiwan, he assumed top-ranked positions, such as CEO of the Joint Commission of Taiwan (2011~2013), and Director-General of the Department of Medical Affairs, Ministry of Health and Welfare (2013~2014). Soon thereafter, Dr. Lee was appointed as President of the Asian Society for Quality in Health Care in 2013 and successfully led its four glory years. He has also served as an institutional board member and Chairman of Education Committee of International Society for Quality in Health Care from 2013 to 2017.
Taiwan is not only the “island of high technology” but also the “island of high quality health care.” Dr. Lee has dedicated to digital transformation of Taiwan’s medical services since his term on the Joint Commission of Taiwan. He initiated the Smart Hospital Campaign in 2014. Health care organizations and collaborative information technology companies worked together to compete the national awards of “Smart Hospital.” Currently, nearly all hospitals have widely embraced information technologies in their daily practices. Dr. Lee also has engaged in many digital transformation projects of Taipei Veterans General Hospital since 2017 and joined the government projects on a national level.
        Dr. Lee received the Johns Hopkins University “2021 Distinguished Alumnus Award” for his outstanding performance in SARS and COVID-19 pandemic control and contribution to alma mater at the most difficult time of pandemic in 2020. He initiated smart flow control system for hospital’s patients and visitors. He also initiated the telemedicine outpatient services for patients with chronic illnesses, and integrated rehabilitation clinics for long-COVID patients.
