International Radiation Experts Visit Taipei Veterans General Hospital and Praise Its Cutting-Edge Heavy Particle Cancer Treatment

The President of the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU), Vincent Grégoire, led a group of 10 consultants to visit the Heavy Ion Cancer Therapy Center at Taipei Veterans General Hospital on the afternoon of March 4, 113. They were welcomed by Vice Superintendent Wei-Ping Lee and accompanied by Director Yu-Ming Liu of the Heavy Particle and Radiation Oncology Department.

The guests were impressed by the heavy particle equipment introduced by Taipei Veterans General Hospital at great expense to provide advanced and precise cancer treatment to the Taiwanese people. They showed great interest in the field of advanced cancer treatment, especially the indications and effects of heavy particle therapy. Vice Superintendent Wei-Ping Lee gave a detailed explanation, creating a relaxed and interactive atmosphere, which enabled the international radiologists to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan's great achievements in cancer treatment.

Professor Vincent Grégoire, Chairman of the ICRU, is currently Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Léon Bérard Cancer Center in Lyon, France. He is also a past President of the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO), a past Vice-President of the Board of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), and a past Chairman of the EORTC Radiation Oncology Group and the EORTC Head and Neck Group. During his visit, Professor Grégoire expressed his amazement at the Taipei Veterans General Hospital's Heavy Ion Cancer Therapy Center. He also mentioned his belief that the world's focus is gradually shifting from the West to the East, and he hopes for future collaborations. Having visited major particle centers around the world, he noted that Taipei Veterans General Hospital gave him the warmest and most friendly welcome, allowing him to fully experience the enthusiasm and hospitality of the Taiwanese people.
