About Us

The Department of Medicine bears the tasks of patient care, research and teaching. It has 676general beds, 90 hemodialysis beds and 20 coronary intensive care beds to provide clinical and patient care services, divided into 10 subspecialties as well as one Endoscopy Center. Outpatient visits are approximately 49,894 per month in 2022.

A nationwide HBV vaccination program has been operating from this department since 1981, and is one of its landmark achievements. Other outstanding performances include a hepatitis prevention program, therapeutic endoscopy for bleeding ulcers and gastroesophageal bleeding, interferon therapy for chronic viral hepatitis, cardiac catheterization, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) and stenting, electrophysiological study (EPS) and ablation, bone marrow transplantation, intensive diabetic therapy, artificial intelligence application in hemodialysis, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), AIDS programs, blood component therapy, treatment of bronchial asthma and systemic lupus erythematosus.

This department also provides different medical training or educational programs for subjects ranging from medical students (clerks, interns) and residents to physician candidates for subspecialty training. Over 95% of the physicians are also part-time or full-time faculties of the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University School of Medicine. They participate intensively in various teaching programs for the medical students of the university. Additionally, different training programs are available not only to hospital staff, but also to outside-hospital staff, not only for medical practices, but also for other medically related disciplines.

In the area of research, this department conduct approximately 170 medical researches a year. The annual productivity of academic publications reached 399 SCI papers in 2022, that are ranked top in both quantity and quality in the hospital.

In the future, we will continue to make good use of the expertise capacity to promote medical service, training and research continually.
