Be the gold winner of your life!
National Palace Museum and Taipei Veterans General Hospital Collaborate on the Launch of the Gold Moments Card Deck

As Taiwan becomes a super-aged society in 2025, National Palace Museum has decided to go the extra mile in its preemptive efforts to promote older adult education further and works with the Taipei Veterans General Hospital’s Dementia Treatment and Research Center and Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology to launch the Gold Moments cognitive activity card deck. These cards are used as an art therapy tool to help patients with mild cognitive disorders or very mild dementia to share their life stories, improve their cognitive functions, and raise their self-awareness.

Within each set of the Gold Moments cards are 60 cards, a guide on relics shown on the cards, and a user manual. These relics are chosen from National Palace Museum’s classics jointly by psychologists, occupational therapists, and educators at the museum with a focus on the cognitive needs of older adults and cover 10 themes: infants and children; young adults; older adults; foods; plants and flowers; animals; everyday essentials; festivals and seasons; mythological characters, and classics. The cards are designed with large characters, bright colors, an appropriateness thickness, and a large size to make the cards legible to and easy to use by older adults.

Unlike regular board games or card games, the Gold Moments deck is a nonmedicinal intervention tool featuring diverse applications in a clinical setting. With the guidance of healthcare professionals or trained professionals, players will be able to bring art into their daily experiences and life stories and to look back on the countless, unforgettable, and beautiful “gold moments” of their lives. This allows them to engage in self-talk and self-healing as an alternative way to train cognitive functions, improve international interaction, and realize active aging in older adults with or without dementia.
