The Ophthalmology Department is divided into five divisions: General Ophthalmology, Glaucoma, Retina, Neuromuscular and Oculoplasty. The Ophthalmology Department offers medical and surgical care for some 500 pediatric and adult patients with ocular disease everyday. The 50-bed department performs ocular surgeries in four operating rooms equipped with the most advanced equipment, including phacoemulsification, endolaser and vitrectomy equipment.
In addition to laser electrophysiological equipment, the department has automated perimetry, fluorescent angiography, ultrasonography, SLO and OCT among others. In 1976, the department was the first in Taiwan to successfully perform an intraocular lens implantation. The vitreoretinal surgery procedure has won nationwide admiration.
