The recent advances of ultrafast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have brought whole body scanning for the purpose of health care into light. The VGH-Healthtech Imaging Center is the first in the world to utilize the integration of ultrafast MRI and ultrasound for the early detection of cancer, cerebrovascular disease and cardiovascular disease, the three leading causes of death in Taiwan. Unlike ordinary radiographs, MRI is far more accurate and precise, non-invasive, and radiation-free. Through the Internet, the concept of a virtual imaging center has also been realized. The images and the accordant report can be accessed by referring physicians of other institutions where patients have come from and also by institutions where patients may be transferred, thereby reducing unnecessary medical expenses.
